Macedonia - Last Minute Itinerary Add

Updated: Aug 19, 2020

Looking to escape from the major Balkan cities and have a few days in a serene lake front Macedonian village? If so, look no further.

Radožda Village situated just 15 minutes from Struga is a tranquil and remote placd to hike, paddle board, and embrace the breathtaking Lake Ohrid views. Although the city of Orhid is charming, the fishing town of Radožda provides an authentic feel of life in southern Macedonian. For accommodation in Radižda, I highly recommend staying at Free Flow Hostel as it is meticulously well maintained, provides a full kitchen and offers some of the most serene views of the lake. Prior to visiting Radožda, I wasn’t quite sure how I would get there from Ohrid; however, Gene (the owner of Free Flow) provided all of the information to ensure that my entire trip was seamless. There are essentially two options for getting to the village... Either take a bus to Struga and then another bus to Radožda or pay Gene a small fee for a ride from Struga. I went with and recommend the latter (especially if you don’t have a SIM card with data!).

Also, keep in mind that you can get to all major surrounding cities by bus from Struga (Tirana, Skopje, Belgrad and even Vienna).

There are local family ran fish restaurants just a few minute walk away from the hostel.

From the time you arrive in the village you’ll be in paradise and the most difficult decision you’ll make is whether to rent a kayak or a paddle board.

Which ever you choose, enjoy village life and Gene’s delicious banana bread. Oh and please give him a hug for me!

As always, let me know if you have any questions or comments! :-)
